AppSumo
Redeem your AppSumo code
Activate your AppSumo license on a new or existing Contral account, step by step, including email verification.
Redeeming links your AppSumo license to a Contral account and switches that account to your lifetime tier. You start from your AppSumo purchase. There is no code to type into Contral.
Important
The redemption link that AppSumo sends you to is valid for 24 hours. If you don't finish within 24 hours, start again from your AppSumo purchase. Starting again is free and doesn't use up your license.
Before you redeem your AppSumo code#
- Decide which Contral account should own the license. A license links to exactly one Contral account, and an account can hold only one license. If you already use Contral, sign in with that account during redemption so your progress and history stay together.
- Remember how you sign in. Contral accounts are identified by sign-in method and email. If you created your account with Continue with Google, use Google again. Signing in with a different method or email address creates a separate, empty account.
- Cancel any paid Contral subscription first. If you're on a monthly or annual Pro, Pro+ or Teams subscription, cancel it from Dashboard → Subscription before you redeem so you don't pay for both. If you forget, the Subscription page shows a Cancel subscription option next to your license, and cancelling keeps your lifetime tier. See Subscriptions, upgrades & cancellation.
Redeem your AppSumo code step by step#
- Sign in to AppSumo and open Account → Products (appsumo.com/account/products).
- Find Contral and click Activate. (AppSumo may label it as redeeming or activating your license.)
- AppSumo asks you to approve sharing your license with Contral. Approve it.
- You land on contral.ai/appsumo/redeem, a page titled AppSumo License.
- If you're not signed in to Contral, you're sent to the Contral sign-in page. Your redemption link is kept, so you come back to it automatically after signing in.
- Already have a Contral account: sign in with the same method you always use (Google, GitHub, or email and password).
- New to Contral: click Sign up, then choose Google, GitHub, or email and password.
- The page shows "Linking your AppSumo license to your Contral account…" and then Your license is now active! with the tier you bought, for example "You've been upgraded to Tier 2 (Pro)."
- Click Go to Dashboard. Your dashboard at contral.ai/overview now shows an amber AppSumo Tier badge.
That's it. Open the Contral extension or desktop IDE and sign in with the same account. If you're already signed in there, see Your new tier isn't showing in the editor.
Signing up with email during AppSumo redemption#
Email and password sign-ups need one extra step: verifying your email address. Your redemption is preserved through this step.
- On the sign-up page, enter your name, email and a password. The password needs at least 8 characters, one number and one uppercase letter.
- Contral shows Check your email and sends a verification link to your address.
- Open the email and click the verification link. You can do this in any browser, including on another device.
- The link takes you to the Contral sign-in page with your redemption still attached. Sign in with your email and password.
- Redemption finishes automatically and shows Your license is now active!
Warning
Finish verification within 24 hours of clicking Activate on AppSumo. After that the redemption link expires and you'll see "This redemption link expired. Open your AppSumo purchase and activate again." If that happens, go back to AppSumo, click Activate again, and sign in with the account you just created. You don't need to sign up a second time.
Can't find the verification email? Check your spam or promotions folder. If you're signed in, the dashboard also shows a Send Verification Email button in a yellow banner at the top.
Signing in with Google or GitHub during redemption#
Continue with Google and Continue with GitHub skip email verification, so they're the fastest way to redeem. A popup opens for your Google or GitHub account. After you approve it, you return to the redemption page and the license links immediately.
If nothing happens when you click the button, your browser may be blocking popups for contral.ai. Allow popups for contral.ai and try again.
Redeeming AppSumo on an existing Contral account#
If you already have a free Contral account:
- Sign in with that account when the redemption page asks. Your learning progress, sessions and settings stay as they are; only your plan changes.
- If you're already signed in to contral.ai in the same browser, the license links to that account straight away. Check which account is signed in before you click Activate. You can see it in the top-right corner of the dashboard.
- To use a different account, sign out of contral.ai first, then click Activate on AppSumo again.
If the license ended up on the wrong account, contact support. Don't redeem again with another account, because a linked license can't be claimed by a second account. See Contact support.
Your new tier isn't showing in the editor#
Your plan changes on Contral's servers the moment redemption succeeds. Limits are checked on the server, so your new limits apply right away. The extension or IDE may still show your old plan label until it refreshes your session.
- Make sure the editor is signed in with the same account you used to redeem. Type
/statusin the Contral chat to see which account and plan it's using. - Reload the editor window. In VS Code-family editors, open the Command Palette and run Developer: Reload Window.
- If it still shows the old plan, sign out of Contral in the editor and sign in again.
How to confirm your AppSumo license is active#
- Dashboard → Overview shows the AppSumo Tier 1/2/3 badge next to your name.
- Dashboard → Subscription shows "Your AppSumo lifetime license is active." with an Active badge.
If you see a redemption error instead, look it up in Redemption errors.
